Kumiko House
Designed with a quiet sense of purpose, the home orients itself around seamless circulation—where every room is positioned equidistantly from the heart of the house. Each space stands independently self-sufficient, yet instinctively connected to the whole, forming an architectural rhythm that is both intuitive and enduring.
At the core of its design lies a powerful metaphor: the beehive. Inspired by its order, elegance, and inherent efficiency, the home adopts this logic of spatial harmony—where every room supports the next in a natural continuum, just as bees support their queen. This principle manifests in both plan and façade, with hexagonal and triangular motifs echoing the geometry of a honeycomb. Further elevating this aesthetic, we introduced intricate Kumiko patterns—a nod to the cultural dialogue born from the Tang dynasty, when Buddhism and oriental craftsmanship first took root in Japan.
Kumiko House is associated with the Fengshui element of metal because of its dedication to clarity, precision, and symbolism of wholeness. Meticulously cut aluminium screens wrap the home in light and shadow, their Kumiko forms representing both prosperity and the enduring bond between generations.
